Sludge Reduction – Five Lagoon System

california dairy lagoon

Overview:  A Texas wastewater treatment plant has

a five lagoon system of 24 surface acres.  Average influent is 1.2 million gallons per day.  Regulation requires sludge removal at 36-48” of depth in their 8 foot deep lagoons. Goal – reduce sludge without impacting water quality.

Solution:  Install seven (7) MBD Model 600 aerators totalling 21 HP.  Within 18 months sludge is reduced 80% to an average depth of 6”-8”.  No draining or sludge removal occurs during this treatment period.  Units have now been online for some 10 years, system has met water quality requirements, and staff has spent less than 100 hours maintaining and monitoring the MBD systems.
